Dressed as his favorite hero\, &quot\;General Sam Houston\,&quot\; Charlie will “bring the General to life” for you.

If you were one of the many new members in 2008 who received a Steamboat House gift certificate

generously donated by Charlie (as part of our membership drive\,) but are still looking forward to your visit\,

you will appreciate the ambiance even more after hearing Charlie as “General Sam Houston”!

In 1964\, a neighbor came into Charlie Fogarty’s custom picture frame shop in Houston and

gave him two pictures he had rescued from an old building near downtown\, scheduled to be bulldozed.

The two &quot\;pictures&quot\; turned out to be magnificent old oil portraits of Sam Houston and George Washington

that had been commissioned for the 1936 San Jacinto Centennial Celebration and Parade!

Thus began the collection now displayed at the Steamboat House Restaurant\,

for after being a partner in Goodson’s Café in Tomball for 16 years\, in 2001 Charlie dreamed of

opening a steak house and displaying the historic paintings.  He and his wife\, Senie\, spent an hour or so at the

&quot\;Steamboat House&quot\; in Huntsville\, Sam Houston’s last residence\, peering in the windows and taking photos.

The following day\, Charlie began a 4-year project of planning and work\, by sketching the floor plan of the restaurant

&quot\;Steamboat House\,&quot\; resulting in not just a steakhouse\, but a Texas History Museum.

We are honored to have this expert on Texas history

as one of our own TTPRW members!
